【CAP STUDIO Y3, May】

A Brief note of Introduction.

Dear Readers,

To make this page easy to use and truly helpful to our English speaking community, it seems like a good idea to make some refinements in the way I package information. We have a diverse community both locally and abroad. To serve their various needs, it's important to insure that the blog will accomplish several things.

First, it must keep you informed about upcoming events and a simple calendar does not adequately serve this need. The blog should identify events that are accessible to English speakers either because they are presented in English, the event is supported with  English interpretation, or, as with exhibitions and performances, language does not determine your experience.  In this way, the blog can help you find the events you can fully enjoy.

Second, many CAP members and friends live in Europe or elsewhere and cannot visit the Studio Y3 or Club Q2. Nonetheless, they would appreciate staying up on current events and enjoy the accounts we can provide of exhibitions, workshops and art parties.

So, at the suggestion of my colleagues, I want to change the English language calendar format. In the future, with each month I'll identify those events that are supported with English or don't require knowledge of Japanese. For these events, I'll offer a information on the date, times and fees (if any). In addition, the calendar will offer some detail about the event so that you can be clear about its content.

For members and friends who are far away, several times each month I'll write in some detail about recent events. My goal will be to try and capture the mood as well as the sense of what is happening here.

As CAP continues to grow and contribute to the cultural life of Kobe and the region, my goal will be to document that growth by telling stories about the activities and the people who bring their energy to our community. I do my best in this effort and I appreciate your visits to the blog.

Klaas Burger is a visiting artist from the Netherlands. He is here on grants from the government of the Netherlands and CAP is delighted to be his host. Since mid March, he has occupied a studio at Y3 and has been steadily preparing his installation.
His presence here is a reminder of CAP's enthusiasm and  partnerships with the international community toward strengthing the role of the arts in civil society and our local culture.

Check out the art party blog for his artist talk.

Finally, while the event I'm recommending is in English, I don't wish to discourage you from joining any other event that you may find appealing. We are an international community and enthusiastically welcome everyone.
