5/13（金） クラース・バーガー個展、パーティ レポート

まずはクラースさんが乾杯のあいさつ。
写真左はクラースさんの奥さんのリエネカさんです。
展覧会期中にオランダから神戸に来られました。

クラースさん、リエネカさんがオランダ料理を用意してくれました。
上の写真はブロックチーズとらっきょう、キュウリのピクルスです。
「きれいに添えてあるお花は食べられるんですか？」と訪ねたところ、「スーパーで買って、さっき食べたら甘い味がしたから多分大丈夫、、かな」とリエネカさん。
チーズと一緒にお花を食べましたがおいしかったです。
下の写真はにんじんとジャガイモを茹でてすりつぶした、オランダの寄せ鍋風の料理です。
「オランダ料理は初めてだけど、おいしい！」と足を運んで下さった方に好評で、ペロリと完食しました。

次に、リエネカさんが展示中の作品について、またクラースさんが考えていることについてスピーチを行いました。
大変、面白いスピーチだったので本人からテキストを頂いてこのブログの最後に紹介します。



作品一つ一つの解説を聴きながら見入るお客さんの様子です。
リエネカさんがスピーチの中で「どこかで見たことがありそうな形のインスタレーション作品ですが、それが何かわからなくても人に何か想像してもらえるような展覧会だと思います」と話された事が印象的でした。
カーペットが反り上がっている作品や、クラースさんの写真が回転している作品。
他のユニークな形の作品も、「これは一体何だろう？」と想像しながら探っていくと、普段思いもしなかったようなアイデアや発想がふと出てくるのが面白いです。

スピーチの最後に、リエネカさんから「作品や展覧会について思う事、感想など、何でもいいから書いて下さい」と、来て下さった皆さんから思い思いに書いていただきました。
クラースさんは今回書いていただいた事を、今後の作品のアイデアにしたいそうです。

オランダ料理を食べながら作品について思い耽る、とても楽しいパーティになりました。

Tools for the Living (Opening Speech)

 

I'm in a new place. In a new country. The best thing is to watch, not to speak. So the only thing I can tell you is what I see.

 

Four different tastes of fruit juice on a white wall with black lines. / A yellow hand on a white triangle on a light-blue construction. / A green plant hanging upside down in a wooden construction. / A small staircase leading to a stage with a mirror: you can watch yourself standing on the stage. / A two-colored carpet, half hanging, half laying on the ground. / Some stripes and a little pieces on the wall with a green stick and a rope on the ground. / A rotating picture of Klaas. Is he standing or laying? / A red and blue colored object, striped, with a rotating part. / Different colors of tape. / A wooden construction.

 

What's this all about? I don't know... I know we call this installation art.

 

This exhibition is called Tools for the Living. Why? I asked Klaas. He told me he hopes you will remember some of those pieces, shapes, in your daily life. Maybe, when you are in a supermarket or at the train station. I think Klaas doesn't want to tell you a specific story, or give you his opinions about something. I think you can watch this exhibition the same as a painting. Sometimes you recognize an object you know. Sometimes you don't know what to see. Suddenly you are looking at yourself, at your own face.

 

Klaas said: 'Maybe my works are a kind of dictionary for watching.' He also said: 'All the things are having a front- and backside.' There is no truth, there is no best point of view.

 

Yesterday Klaas and I went to the Zen garden of Ryoanji. In the guide is written people were having discussions about the meaning of this particular garden. Maybe that rock is a boat on the sea? Maybe something else? After a lot of discussion the people didn't find the story of this garden. The guide said: 'Maybe the best way of enjoying this garden is not trying to find the meaning. Just watch the stones and enjoy.'
